The Payroll Specialist assists in all aspects of the County-wide payroll function. This role will collaborate with employees and departments to process employee record updates and payroll transactions with a high degree of quality and accuracy. This position serves as an initial point of contact for baseline payroll interactions including employment verifications, wage assignments, and personnel actions. Must have a working knowledge of payroll best practices, operations, and systems, with a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Requires an ability to manage work priorities and regularly communicate status. Will cross-train in HR department and provide back-up services as needed. Job Duties: Accurately process personnel actions, maintain employee payroll records, and ensure data integrity. Respond and assist with internal and external payroll/HR-related inquiries. Calculate and process wage garnishments, deductions, and adjustments. Compile employee time, production, and payroll data from time sheets and other records. Prepare and distribute payroll reports (i.e. deductions, withholdings, earnings, etc.). Assist with leave administration including preparing and tracking employee leave records. As assigned, process payroll for employees accurately and in a timely manner Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing. Respond to requests for employment verification and ensure appropriate authorizations are in place. Schedule meetings, events, training sessions and coordinate team agenda. Ensure, maintain, and protect confidentiality and access to protected data and information. Perform administrative tasks as directed regarding matters relevant to community outreach. Successfully demonstrates the ability to prioritize work assignments. Must be able to be present at designated work site minimum of 40 hours per week, as established by supervisor. Other duties as assigned.
